Absolute cosign. Same goes for any art form.
Think about this: How timeless is Titanic? Seriously. I think that for as "important" a film as that was, DiCaprio probably wouldn't cite it as his most timeless, and I certainly don't believe Kate Winslet would. This question actually leads to... Avatar.
I have yet to see it, mind you, but I'm telling you right now: It's no Star Wars.

I think the "timeless" aspect of anything also has a lot to do with how fully it impacts the masses. I'm pretty sure you follow me, but it's not just popularity we're talking about, but... I' gonna say it... the Zeitgeist of the times.

Nirvana impacted the Z word - people were freaking BEGGING for something new. (Even though I think Jane's Addiction should be getting way more props than they do for that musical revolution) The music of the 60's did the same thing. It's about time for something new but... I'm afraid the Z word is less a focused thing right now than it's ever been. (you know, 3 people used to reach 3,000, now 3,000 reach 3 apiece) Maybe there's a clue in there somewhere...

Tony - I couldn't agree more - while I was reading I felt like 'dancin' on the ceiling!'
